Breast Reduction in Man

Breast Reduction in Man

In today's competitive job market it is essential to look better. Every day more men undergo cosmetic surgery, as studies show that it goes hand in hand with career advancements. Studies reveal that 84% of men in the United States believe that physical attractiveness was decisive in the success of their jobs. Gynecomastia, a medical word derived from Greek, which means "breasts like women" affects one in ten men. Breast growth in young boys lasts a few years, and they usually resolve around 18 years of age. In man, however, it can be uncomfortable, as well as socially and psychologically catastrophic.

Gynecomastia may be associated with obesity, metabolic hormonal imbalance, liver disease or drug causes. Before choosing a surgical solution to this disorder, we recommend a period of diet and exercise. If this fails, we must indicate the surgical intervention.

Is breast reduction surgery for you?
During your consultation with your surgeon, explain your concerns and expectations regarding surgery. It will determine the nature of the growth of your breasts and the elasticity of your skin. The cause of its growth can be Fatty and / or Glandular Tissue. Your surgeon will explain the treatment you should receive and the result that will be achieved.

The procedures:
Breast reduction in men is usually performed under local anesthesia associated with sedation. The procedure itself lasts from 60 to 90 minutes.

Liposuction

If your gynecomastia is mainly caused by fatty tissue, this is the procedure of choice. Liposuction is a procedure currently used for the removal of fatty deposits located in unwanted areas of the body. A special cannula for these purposes is introduced by a minimal incision located in a strategic area of the skin. Using a vacuum system connected to the cannula, we suction the excess fat out. The result is to redefine the body environment making it more attractive.

Traditional surgical excision

If your Gynecomastia is the result of a glandular disorder, isolated liposuction is not appropriate. Surgical excision will be a better option. The excision may be performed alone or associated with liposuction. Usually, the incision is made at the edge of the halo. Your surgeon will work through it to cut and remove excess glandular tissue, fat and even skin from your breasts.

If the reduction requires considerable tissue removal, we will require major incisions. If your Gynecomastia is extreme, and large amounts of fat and / or glandular tissue have to be removed, we must also dry out excess skin.

Post-operative recommendations
Bed rest is recommended for the first 24 hours. You may feel some pain for a few days, which gives in with the use of common pain relievers (never self-medicate). The patient should wear compression bandages for two weeks. Some patients have relative swelling (edema), which subsides in a short period of time. After 15 days we remove the sutures.

Most patients return to their work activities during the first postoperative week. After a breast reduction surgery, the man will release a new silhouette and a significant increase in his self-esteem.
